The CvasYouAre XML format

Every PDF generated by CvasYouAre contains an attachment named cv-data.xml with all the data of the CV. It makes your CV portable: you can import the PDF (or the XML on its own) back into CvasYouAre, and any program can read it.

Where to find it

• Open the PDF in a reader that shows attachments (Adobe Acrobat Reader: paperclip icon in the side panel; Firefox and Chrome: attachments panel) and save cv-data.xml.
• To import it: Import CV on the website, then upload the PDF or the XML file (max 10 MB). Europass XML files are accepted too.

Schema and namespace

• Namespace: https://www.cvasyouare.com/cv/schema/v1
• XML Schema (XSD), public: /cv/schema/v1 (same address as the namespace)
• Root element: CvDocument with attribute version="1.0"
• Encoding: UTF-8

The file declares its schema with xsi:schemaLocation, so validators and XML editors find it on their own:

Rules

• Order: inside each element, children can appear in any order.
• Empty values: optional fields can be empty (<cv:Phone />); CvasYouAre always writes every element, even when empty.
• Dates: yyyy-MM-dd. An empty DateTo means "ongoing". ExportDate is an ISO 8601 date-time in UTC.
• CV language (Metadata/Language): English, Italian, French, Spanish or German.
• Language levels (Read, Write, Listen, Conversation, Interaction): CEFR scale A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2.
• Profile photo: image in base64, usually as a data URI (data:image/jpeg;base64,…), with attribute encoding="base64".
• Notes (Summary/Notes) is the internal CV name: in the XML attached to PDFs it is always empty, because the PDF is meant to be sent to recruiters.
• Files created before October 2026 use the older namespace http://cvasare.com/cv/schema/v1: CvasYouAre still imports them.
